Clear crash data and fix the airbag light after an accident, often without buying a new module.
After airbags deploy, the airbag (SRS) control module stores crash data and locks itself, so the warning light stays on even after the bodywork is done. Many shops and dealers replace the module outright. In many vehicles the original module can be reset instead. Sask ECU & Airbag Services resets airbag modules and repairs the rest of the SRS system so the light goes out and the system works.
Many airbag lights are wiring problems, not failed parts. One customer was quoted about $2,500 at the dealer for a new wiring harness and labour; we found and repaired the wiring fault for a fraction of that.
Body shops and collision centres can call us for post-repair airbag module resets and SRS diagnostics on customer vehicles.
For general airbag light diagnosis, see airbag and SRS diagnostics.
Often not. After a deployment the module stores crash data and locks itself. In many vehicles the original module can be reset and reused once the deployed parts are replaced, which costs much less than a new module.
Common causes are stored crash data in the module, a deployed seatbelt pretensioner, a damaged impact sensor or a wiring fault in the seat or steering wheel. We read the fault codes and test the circuit to find which one it is.
The light means the airbag system may not deploy in a crash. Have it diagnosed before relying on it.
A lit airbag warning is a common reason for failing a safety inspection. We repair the fault so the system tests clean.
